General Project
Description
EPD
entered into a
contract with the US
Army Corp of
Engineer District,
Chicago (USACE)
under a
competitively bid
solicitation to
perform sediment and
freshwater sampling.
A total of five (5)
sampling points were
identified by USACE
in the Indiana
Harbor of Lake
Michigan as part of
an overall
rehabilitation plan.
These sites were
accessed utilizing
an equipment barge.
Sediments sampling
was conducted at
depths 10’ to 28’
below the water
surface using a
large dredge
excavator.
Freshwater sampling
was performed at
various intervals
utilizing a EPD pump
system. Both
sediments and
freshwater samples
were containerized
in 55-gallon drums,
totaling 52 drums in
number. These
samples were
preserved by a
refrigerated truck
located on the barge
and then shipped in
separate
refrigerated trucks
to USACE
laboratories. EPD
provided a project
summary report
including GPS data,
Chain of Custodies
and general site
notes.
The final contract
value was $35,000.
